NOTES:
- Price Per Lid/Unit is the lowest price found on the web, eBay, or Amazon. Prices shown are purchase price divided by quantity.
- Price Per Cup is computed by taking into account the price of the product, a K-Cup reused (10 times if reused with original filter, 25 if reused with new filters), $.05 per serving for coffee. Price of unit is not factored in if it can be used forever.
K-Cup Units vs. K-Cup Lids
There are two major types of solutions. The first is a entire reusable K-Cup unit. Keurig was the first to introduce their version of this as the My K-Cup. The second type of solution are lids for reusing a K-Cup. The K-Cup units will always give you the lowest Price Per Cup of coffee (around $.05 as shown below). However, that price is offset by the fact that all of the K-Cup units cost above $10 per unit so it is hard to buy a bunch of them and make them up in advance and enjoy the convenience of the Keurig brewer. The K-Cup lids on the other hand are less expensive and allow you to purchase more of them. This convenience is offset by a slight increase in the Price Per Cup (around $.10 as shown below).
Detailed Notes on each Solution

- Must be cleaned between every use
- Does not work in all brewers
- Makes a weak cup of coffee |
My-Kap Kap
The My-Kap Kaps were introduced in 2007 and were the second alternative K-Cup solution on the market. The are designed to Kap reused K-Cups either using the existing filter in the original K-Cup or with new filters.

|
- Highest price per lid solution

Disposacup
This solution allows you to make a sealed K-Cup. The solution is composed of a cup, filters, and a lid. The lids are also sold separately to be used with a reused K-Cup. In all cases, the product is designed to be thrown away after each use. Because of this it is the highest Price Per Cup solution.
| Pro's |
Con's |
| - Makes a sealed K-Cup |
- Highest Price Per Cup of coffee
- Used only once
- Reusing filter |
Ekobrew
The Ekobrew came out in 2011. It can hold up to 14 grams of coffee (the largest on the market). This should help get a stronger brew. It also has a flat bottom, and is easy to fill.
| Pro's |
Con's |
|
- Low Price Per Cup of coffee
- Holds 14 grams of coffee
- Flat bottom so won't fall over
|
- Must be cleaned between every use
- High cost of each unit
- Top interferes with water spray |
Kbrewlids
The Kbrelids are designed to replace the foil lid on top of the K-Cup. In order to do this, the K-Cup must be cleaned and dried. Then you fill it with coffee and iron on the foil lids.
| Pro's |
Con's |
|
- Low Price Per Cup of coffee
|
- Lids must be ironed onto K-Cups
- Can not use new filters with this solution
- Used only once
- Reusing filter |
K-Saver
The K-Saver is a metal lid that fits on top of the K-Cup and has a center hole that is spring loaded so that the Keurig injector nozzle pushes it down to spray the water into the cup. The K-Saver is a good solution when it fits the K-Cup. The biggest problem with this solution is that it does not fit all K-Cups well. In addition, the cover in the center hole does not retract so the water is sprayed around the edges of the coffee instead of into it.
| Pro's |
Con's |
|
- Low Price Per Cup of coffee
- Spring loaded self sealing lid
- Lasts forever
|
- Lid does not fit well on top of K-Cups
- Can not use new filters with this solution
- Metal could affect the taste of the coffee
- Self sealing lid interferes with the waters spray
- Reusing filter |
Solofill
The Solofill came out in 2010. It can hold up to 11 grams of coffee (larger than a K-Cup). This should help get a stronger brew. It has a odd shaped bottom, so it tends to fall over on the counter-top.
| Pro's |
Con's |
|
- Low Price Per Cup of coffee
- Holds 11 grams of coffee
|
- Must be cleaned between every use
- High cost of each unit
- Unit will not sit on a counter well |
