Frequently Asked Questions
General
Q: How many times can the K-Cup be reused? A: As many times as you are comfortable with. 10-20 times is possible. The paper filter in these cups is very durable. Wash it out every time and you will get many uses out of a K-Cup.
Q: How many times can the Kap be reused? A: Forever. This Kap is made of extremely strong plastic. Keep it clean and re-use it forever.
Q: Will the My-Kap work with any K-Cup? A: Yes and no. Not all of the K-Cups are made exactly alike. It works well with any K-Cup with a filter in it. Please note that some K-Cups like Hot Cocoa do not have any filters in them.
Q: What kind of plastic is used? A: My-Kap is made of polycarbonate plastic. It is one of the most used plastics in the world. It has an extremely high melting point and is 250 times stronger than glass. Your eye glasses are probably made out of this material.
Q: Why would I want more than 1? A: True, you could get by on just one kap. However, the reason most people buy the Keurig hinehine is because of the convenience. If you buy just one then you have to always be rinsing a K-Cup out and making one before making your brew. If you buy more than one kap then you can make up a bunch of them in advance and then just use them like you would with a regular K-Cup. We sell an 18 pack of kaps because this is a common quantity that K-Cups are sold in. That way you have enough kaps to make a whole box of K-Cups in advance and it is still convenient.
Q: What about BPA? A: This has been in the news lately. Plastic is everywhere we look. Much of the Keurig coffee brewer and K-Cup are made of various plastics that contain BPA. The fact is, it is almost impossible to not use a BPA containing plastic today. Also keep in mind that most hospital plastics contain BPA. If they thought it was unsafe, they would not use them.

Usage
Q: Is the Kap machine washable? A: Yes. It is very durable and is Dishwasher Safe.
Q: How much coffee should I put in the K-Cup? A: Fill the K-Cup up about 3/4 of the way. Make sure you use a fine grind.
Q: What coffee grind should I use? A: In general, very fine. The coffee used in K-Cups is almost an espresso grind. When you clean a K-Cup after using it the first time, feel the coffee between your fingers. Remember that and that is how your grind should feel when you grind your coffee. Also, this is a matter of taste, so experimenting is a good thing to do. In the end, if you like it, then it is the right grind.
Q: The kap does not seem to fit the K-Cup? A: Make sure the kap writing "www.My-Kap.com" is up facing the outside of the K-Cup. The sides of the kap are tapered and it sill not work upside down.
Q: Should the K-Cup be dry before filling?
A: If you are going to use it right away, go ahead and clean it, fill it up, and use it. If you are going to make the K-Cup for use later, let the K-Cup air dry before filling. In this case it is also good to have a number of Kap’s on hand so you can make a bunch at a time.
Q: Does it hurt to have lots of holes in the bottom of the K-Cup? A: You can avoid making new holes by aligning the K-Cup each time you reuse it. It is easy to do. However, if you do puncture additional holes it will not matter. It is just a few more holes for the coffee to flow out of. If you look at the filter closely you will see that it does not touch the bottom of the K-Cup, so by the time the fluid hits the bottom of the cup it just needs somewhere to go. The extra holes just help. It will not affect the strength of the brew.
Usage Problems
Q: Sometimes my K-Cup overflows and makes a mess. What is wrong? A: The K-Cups only over flow for one reason, the water can get out around the top. There are only two place that can happen. The first is the side. This happens when there is not a good seal. The Keurig K-Cups are not consistently made. Some of them have the paper glued nicely to the edges and others the paper is flopping around the top. When this happens it is harder to get the seal around the top such that there are no gaps where the water can be forced out. You have to look at it and make sure there is a good seal. The water is forced through under pressure, so any little crack will be a place for water to come through. The second place is in the middle. That really only happens if the kaps is pushed to far down and the gasket does not make a seal around the top so the water can not come out the middle.
Q: The coffee brewer just turns off in the middle of a brew. What is wrong? A: The only time the kaps can cause this to happen is when the K-Cup is overfilled with coffee. The water is pushed through the K-Cup under pressure. If the coffee in the K-Cup is packed so tight that the water can not get through then the water backs up and the Keurig machine turns off. The solution is to use less coffee or a less fine grind. The way to test and see if this is what is going on is to run a used K-Cup and kap through your Keurig machine with nothing in it. It should operate normally and make you a nice hot cup of water.
